Archives for Torrey Smith

All Eyes on Steve Smith Sr.

Some are calling the Ravens vs Panthers game the Steve Smith Bowl.  One team’s trash is another team’s treasure in the NFL.  The Carolina Panthers cut Steve Smith Sr. last year allowing the Baltimore Ravens to acquire this dynamic veteran wide receiver.

Steve Smith Sr. has played extremely well during the first 3 games of the season for the Ravens.  He has a “Get Off Me” attitude stiff arming opponents on his way to the end zone.  I call him the Lil Bully.   Steve Smith Sr. has 18 receptions for 290 yards and a TD thoughout the first 3 weeks.  He is emerging as my favorite player on the Ravens.

All eyes will be on Steve Smith Sr. during the Ravens vs Panthers game which will take place at 1pm Eastern time today.  Many believe he will be motivated to go against his former team and he should have a great day.  If the Carolina Panthers key in on Smith then it may open up things for Torrey Smith.  It should be a good game to watch.  Fon News talks about the Ravens cultue of building billies in the following video:

It is Showtime: Ravens vs Broncos

Several questions will be answered this season for the Baltimore Ravens. Here are some key questions that we might get an answer to in the Ravens vs Broncos game tonight:

1. Is Joe Flacco worth the new contract?

It will be interesting to see which Joe Flacco shows up tonight. Either the regular season Flacco or the post season Flacco during the Superbowl run. If Joe Flacco can defeat Peyton Manning two times in a row then it would be a major accomplishment.

2. How good will our new defense be?

The defense will definitely get tested tonight going against the Broncos offense and their 3 top notch receivers. It will be interesting to see how our secondary will hold up without Ed Reed.

3. Who will step up at the wide receiver position?

With Anquan Boldin gone and Dennis Pitta injured, it will be interesting to see who emerges as the 2nd receiver behind Torrey Smith.

The Ravens vs Broncos will be a good game to start off the NFL football season but it is a shame that the game will not be played in Baltimore where it belongs.

Ravens Shock Broncos and Peyton Manning

The Ravens vs Broncos playoff game was probably the best win for the Baltimore Ravens since the Superbowl victory in 2000! Almost nobody gave the AFC North Champion Ravens a chance to win against the Denver Broncos. Even most of the Baltimore area sports analysts were picking Denver to win. Who knew? Who knew the the offensive line would play outstanding for the Ravens? Who knew that Joe Flacco would outplay Peyton Manning and throw for over 300 yards and 3 TDs? Who knew that Torrey Smith would torch DB Champ Bailey time and time again? Who knew the the Baltimore Ravens would put up 38 points on what was considered one of the best defenses in the NFL?

What most analysts did not take into consideration is the heart of this Ravens team. This is a team of destiny. Maybe they didn’t know that the Ravens are hungry and are tired of getting knocked out of the playoffs like they did n the last 4 years. The Ravens are back baby with unfinished business! Our strong willed emotional leader Ray Lewis is back for his last ride baby!

Yesterday’s win against the Broncos was a total team effort on both offense and defense. The only negative was the special teams coverage which gave up 2 TDs and made the win harder to get than it should have been. The game itself was a high scoring battle going back and forth eventually going into double overtime. After the way the season ended last year, it was only fitting that the victory came on a long field goal by rookie Justin Tucker. In conclusion, the Ravens find themselves right where they need to be after this game. The Ravens are back in the AFC championship and one win away from the Superbowl.

Final Score: Ravens 38 Broncos 35

Long Live Justin Tucker!

If you had any doubts how rookie kicker Justin Tucker would perform under a pressure situation, you can put those doubts to rest right now! Justin Tucker kicked the game winning field goal with 2 seconds on the clock to give the Baltimore Ravens the revenge that they were seeking against the New England Patriots.

Joe Flacco led the game winning drive which led to Justin Tucker’s game winning field goal. Wide receiver Torrey Smith gave an inspiring performance catching 2 TD passes with 127 yards receiving despite the fact that his younger brother was killed in a motorcycle accident less than 24 hours before the game. Joe Flacco passed for 382 yards and 2 TDs and Ray Rice rushed for 101 yards and a TD.

Final Score: Ravens 31 Patriots 30

Thanksgiving Day Battle in Baltimore

As the Baltimore Ravens get ready to battle the San Francisco 49ers on this Thanksgiving night, there are several things I am thankful for.

– I am thankful that the Ravens are in 1st place in the AFC North
– I am thankful that we have speed at the wide receiver position with Torrey Smith and Lee Evans
– I am thankful David Reed will not be returning kicks no time soon
– I am thankful that the Ravens have a home game on Thanksgiving Day

I will be really thankful if the Ravens win tonight and complete this beautiful day with a victory!

Joe Flacco for President

Joe Flacco has won my vote for president by leading the Baltimore Ravens to 2 straight come from behind victories in the 4th quarter. The Ravens have swept the Pittsburgh Steelers during the regular season with their 23 to 20 victory last Sunday. Think about it. If it wasn’t for a couple of dropped passes in the playoffs, Joe Flacco may have won 3 straight against the Steelers!

With the addition of Torrey Smith and Lee Evans, Flacco finally has some good toys to play with. If the offense can get consistent, I don’t think any one will be able to handle the Ravens. Joe Flacco threw for 314 yds and 1 touchdown against the Steelers.

Torrey Smith has Record Breaking Day as Ravens Beat Rams

Joe Flacco threw for 389 yards. Ray Rice had over 160 yards from scrimmage. Haloti Ngata recovered a fumble and ran it back for a touchdown. It was another beat down as the Ravens beat the St. Louis Rams 37 to 7 today. Many Ravens players played well, but the biggest story of the day was rookie Torrey Smith’s performance.

Torrey Smith showed why the Baltimore Ravens drafted him in the 2nd round this year. They were looking for a wide receiver with speed and he showed some speed today. Torrey Smith became the first rookie ever in NFL history to catch 3 touchdown passes in a quarter! As a matter of fact his first three catches ever in a regular season game in the NFL were each for touchdowns. Torrey Smith had no catches this season before today.

Torrey Smith definitely gets the RavensBlogger.com Ravens Player of the Game Award this week for his performance. Torrey Smith ended up with 5 catches for 152 yards today and 3 touchdowns.

Lee Evans is Coming to Town

The Baltimore Ravens traded a 4th round draft pick to the Buffalo Bills and have acquired wide receiver Lee Evansthis past week. Lee Evans is a seasoned veteran with good speed and will be another big target for Joe Flacco. Evans will be another deep threat to go along with rookie Torrey Smith.

Here is an ESPN video clip talking about the Ravens acquisition of Lee Evans:
