Ok it is time to announce the RavensBlogger.com Player Awards for the Baltimore Ravens 2011 season. The awards are as follows:

Most Improved Ravens Player Award – This award goes to Lardarius Webb. Lardarius Webb stepped up his game in 2011 and is one the best cornerbacks in the league now. Ravens Rookie of the Year Award – This award goes to Torrey Smith. Although Torrey struggles during the pre-season, he was a pleasant surprise during the 2011 regular season. His speed gave the Ravens the ability to stretch the field and opposing defenses must account for him. Taken in the 2nd round of the 2011 NFL draft, Torrey Smith made the most impact as a rookie in 2011. Torrey ended up with 841 yards receiving and 7 TDs in 2011. Torrey Smith’s Career Stats

Ravens Leadership Award – This award goes to none other than Ray Lewis. Whether it was cheering on his teammates while on the sidelines or leading by example on the field, Ray Lewis has always been a great leader for the Ravens. Listening to the speech Ray Lewis gave after the big loss to the New England Patriots made me personally feel better and was an example of his amazing leadership skills. Ray Lewis’ Career Stats

Ravens Stomp Steelers 35 to 7

It wasn’t even close. The Baltimore Ravens completely dominated the Pittsburgh Steelers today. It it wasn’t for a 3 man rush play call on defense in the first half, the Steelers probably would not have even scored at all. Excuse my language, but this ass whipping was long overdue. Revenge is the sweetest thing next to getting …. Tupac said it best:)

Joe Flacco looked absolutely great today. Ed Reed had 2 interceptions. T. Sizzle aka Terrell Suggs pretty much owned Ben Roethlisburger all day. Ray Lewis is still forcing fumbles and getting picks. Ray Rice rushed for over 100 yards. Who says you can’t run on Pittsburgh? The whole offense and defense played well. Game over. Looks like the Titans got next.

Here’s a brief clip of Suggs putting Big Ben on his back during the game.

Ray Lewis Stirs Up Some Controversy

Ray Lewis recently started up some controvery when he stated that crime will increase if there is no football this season. Many viewed the statement as ridiculous but is it really? I mean sports has always been a diversion for young males who may otherwise join gangs or run the streets. Imagine if there were no recreation centers or positive sports activites that the youth could be involved in. Where would many of the NFL stars be today if there was never any football?

Ravens Tame Panthers 37 to 13

The Carolina Panthers actually hung tough with the Baltimore Ravens coming to within 7 points in the second half to make it interesting. It did not stay that way long because a couple of our future hall of fame defensive players decided to take matters into their own hands in the 4th quarter. First Ed Reed intercepts a pass and laterals back to Landry who runs it in for a TD. Then Ray Lewis intercepts a pass and runs it back for another touchdown just 11 seconds later. In the words of the legendary character Jigsaw from the horror movie Saw, it was “game over“.
