Can Bernard Pierce Hold Down the Fort?

Bernard Pierce will most likely be the starting running back for the Baltimore Ravens in the first 2 games of the season due to the Ray Rice suspension. This will give Bernard Pierce a chance to shine in the first 2 games and show us if he has what it takes to be a starter. Both Ray Rice and Bernard Pierce are coming off of disappointing performances last season and were both plagued by injuries.

Bernard showed promise in his rookie season when he averaged 4.9 yards per carry. The running game was horrible last season and the Baltimore Ravens will rely heavily on Bernard Pierce in the first 2 games to get off to a good start.

Will Joe Flacco and the Ravens Offense Get it Together?

Joe Flacco and the Ravens offense will have to step up today when they face the defense of the Houston Texans today. The Baltimore Ravens will have to do it without the help of Ray Rice as he is still recovering from a hip injury. With Anquan Boldin gone and Dennis Pitta out because of injury, the Ravens offense has struggled and are not putting up the kind of numbers that they did during their Superbowl run.

Joe Flacoo is now one the top highest paid quarterbacks in the NFL and he will have to prove he can lead the offense in spite of all the injuries. If Ed Reed does play today, hopefully Joe Flacco won’t throw him a pick six.

The offense did not look spectacular but Joe Flacco did throw another TD pass to rookie WR Marlon Brown.

Ray Rice suffered a weird hip injury during game. There was no report on the seriousness of the Ray Rice injury yet. Pash rushers Elvis Dumervil and Terrell Suggs both recorded sacks for the Baltimore Ravens.

Final Score: Ravens 14 Browns 6

Cowboys Come to Town to Play Ravens

After coming off an ugly win against the Kansas City Chiefs last week, the Baltimore Ravens will face the Dallas Cowboys today. The Ravens are undefeated at home so far this season, but the Cowboys will be looking to end that streak.

The key to success in this game will be controlling the line of scrimmage an protecting quarterback Joe Flacco. If the Ravens can run the ball with Ray Rice and keep the pressure off of Flacco, then the Ravens should have another home victory.

Long Live Justin Tucker!

If you had any doubts how rookie kicker Justin Tucker would perform under a pressure situation, you can put those doubts to rest right now! Justin Tucker kicked the game winning field goal with 2 seconds on the clock to give the Baltimore Ravens the revenge that they were seeking against the New England Patriots.

Joe Flacco led the game winning drive which led to Justin Tucker’s game winning field goal. Wide receiver Torrey Smith gave an inspiring performance catching 2 TD passes with 127 yards receiving despite the fact that his younger brother was killed in a motorcycle accident less than 24 hours before the game. Joe Flacco passed for 382 yards and 2 TDs and Ray Rice rushed for 101 yards and a TD.

Ray Rice May Get the Franchise Tag

Ray Rice was the second leading rusher in the NFL in the 2011 season and had over 2,000 yards from scrimmage. Even though he performed as one of the best running backs in the NFL, it is reported that Ray Rice only earned $555,000 in 2011. It would be nice if the Baltimore Ravens could sign him to a long term deal, but it looks as though he may get the franchise tag.

The deadline is March 5th for the franchise tag, so hopefully a long tem deal would get signed by then. If the Baltimore Ravens give Rice the franchise tag he would get a one year deal worth 7.7 million. The worst case scenario would be if Ray Rice decides to hold out for a long term deal like Chris Johnson did last season for the Tennessee Titans.
